Glass Bead Blasting FAQs

What is glass bead blasting?

Glass bead blasting is a process used to refine surfaces, or remove unwanted buildup; similar to water pressure washing and sandblasting. It is more effective at removing impurities than water, yet gentler on surfaces than sandblasting. For this reason it’s often used on tile surfaces, or to create a satin finish on metal.

Is glass bead blasting safe?

Glass bead blasting is safe when administered by trained professionals. Glass beads are environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and reusable, making them a popular choice. However, the blasting process requires training of safety precautions, as well as protective gear. The main purpose of the gear is to protect the users eyes and lungs.

What is the difference between sandblasting and glass bead blasting?

Glass bead blasting looks much like sandblasting, but the result is a much more refined surface. While sandblasting can effectively remove impurities from a surface, bead blasting will create a more satin finish, or preserve delicate finishes already in place. The chemical nature of glass also makes it more environmentally friendly than sandblasting.
